I’m Lucas – a designer, maker, and fabricator with a background in architecture and a lifelong passion for skill collecting. Born and raised on BC's west coast, I recently returned to Vancouver after several years in Manitoba working in community-led design and fabrication.
I hold a Bachelor of Architectural Science from BCIT and a Master of Architecture from the University of Manitoba. My career has been shaped by a mix of hands-on making, digital fabrication, design, and community-driven construction. I'm most at home when I'm designing, building, and helping others develop the skills and confidence to do the same.
My early years were spent experimenting with guitars between working in landscaping and construction. After several years in architectural practice, I realized I needed a path that kept me closer to the tools and workflows of making. That motivated me to pursue my master’s degree, where I explored how making and building could intersect with architectural development and community capacity building.
My thesis focused on empowering First Nations communities through design and construction. I proposed a community workshop model where local members could gain access to the skills, tools, and space to design and build their passions — a project rooted in the idea of increasing agency and ownership in the built environment. This led me into several years of on-the-ground projects, including running design-build workshops, coordinating facility development, and leading the setup and operations of a large fabrication space in Northwestern Ontario. There, I focused on digital fabrication systems, shop infrastructure, CNC operations, and training community members to use these tools.
In 2025, I co-founded Make Place Studio, a design and architecture practice built around community-driven and land-based practices. My recent work has spanned custom fabrication, CNC setup and operations support, tool and inventory systems, custom guitar building, and technical shop development.
I always work in a collaborative manner with a focus on blending with a focus on blending creative problem-solving with practical construction and thrive in fast-paced environments. I'm passionate about efficiency, collaboration, and helping others find their agency through making.
