Warming Hut

Design+Build Workshop
2021

*Done with Grey & Ivy Inc.

I worked with approximately 30 students from across Northern Manitoba’s Frontier School Division to design and construct a warming hut for The Forks in Winnipeg, where it was displayed alongside international designs. The workshop introduced students to site analysis, sketching, modeling, and hands-on construction techniques, blending modern and traditional approaches. The final design, inspired by a blossoming rose, reflected student creativity and collaboration. Each student contributed to a petal, representing something meaningful to them. The project gave students a sense of creative agency, allowing them to see how their ideas could shape the built environment. Through the design and construction process, students gained confidence in their ability to problem-solve, collaborate, and bring a collective vision to life. The final structure was a reflection of their creativity, resourcefulness, and ownership over the design process.
