Bought a house with entry-stairs like sand. Probably the original stairs from 1945. Wanted to give them a bit of an update, add another riser (the original had a 13" rise for the first step), keep the original railings, and do as much as I could myself. Process started by lidar scanning the front of the house, brought that into sketchup and designed the new stairs around it. I busted away all the loose concrete in the stairs until I had space for minimum 4-5" of new concrete. Because it was all designed in SketchUp I was able to extract all the complex geometry of the formwork and cut it out on a CNC. Assembled the formwork on site, added rebar and tied into the existing stairs where possible. Contracted out the actual pour.
